Custom web development in Mallorca
When a template falls short: websites and platforms built for your business, fast and connected to your systems.
In short
Some projects a template handles well and others it can't: when the site has to be very fast, connect to your software or do something no plugin does the way you need.
That's where custom web development comes in. We build it from Palma for businesses in Mallorca and the Balearics, with the same team that designs it, launches it and looks after it afterwards.
The service
Custom web development in Mallorca: what's included
-
Built for your case
No templates or spare plugins: only the code your site needs, designed around your business and the way you work.
-
Speed you can feel
A site with no dead weight loads sooner on a phone, which is where most of your visits come from, and that counts for Google too.
-
Integrations
We connect your site to the bookings, payments, invoicing, email or spreadsheets you already use, so you don't do the same work twice.
-
Custom features
Client areas, online classrooms, calculators, dashboards or smart forms: what your business needs and doesn't come as standard.
-
The site is yours
You pay for the project and the site is yours from the moment it's delivered, with no fee for using it and no commission on every sale.
-
Someone behind it afterwards
A custom site needs looking after. The team that built it maintains it, with a monthly plan if you want one.
The why
Custom web development in Mallorca: why it matters
A custom site isn't better just for being custom. It is when it solves something the simpler option can't: a speed a template doesn't reach, an integration with your systems or a feature that's at the heart of your business. If that isn't your case, we'll say so and recommend the simpler option.
When it is, the difference shows in daily use: your customers book, pay or register without noticing the technology, and you stop copying data from one place to another. It's a bigger investment at the start and, in return, a site that grows with you instead of staying small.
In depth
Custom web development in Mallorca: in depth
When custom development makes sense and when WordPress is enough
The question isn't which technology is better but what your business needs. A properly built WordPress site is an excellent option when you want to edit your content freely, publish often and don't need anything out of the ordinary. Custom development pays off when speed is a priority, when the site has to talk to other systems or when you need features no plugin handles well.
A clear sign that your current solution has become too small is piling up plugins to patch what's missing: each one adds code, a little more slowness and one more risk when updating. If you're unsure, our web design page has a comparison of template, WordPress and custom development, and redesign or fix the website you already have explains how to decide whether it's time to rebuild.
What can be built
Very fast corporate sites with structures a template doesn't allow; online stores built around your catalogue and the way you sell; booking and appointment systems with prepayment and a synced calendar; private client areas, online classrooms with video courses, calculators and configurators, and dashboards to manage content or orders.
If what you need goes beyond the website and is an internal tool, such as a management dashboard, a CRM or an automation, we handle that under AI systems and custom software. The line isn't always clear, which is why we start by understanding what you want to achieve before deciding what gets built.
Integrations: making your site talk to the rest of the business
A site that connects to nothing forces you to copy by hand: the booking that arrives by email and gets written in the diary, the order that's retyped into the invoice, the enquiry pasted into a spreadsheet. We build the connections with the software you already use: payment gateways, booking engines and calendars, invoicing, email, spreadsheets and other services with an API.
Before connecting anything we settle three things: which system is the source of each piece of data, what happens if a connection fails for a day, and who bears the cost of third-party services, if there is one. We also look at which personal data travels and which we don't need to ask for at all, which matters for GDPR and for your customers' trust.
Performance: what Google measures and your customers feel
Google measures loading speed with Core Web Vitals and takes it into account when ranking, but the underlying reason is more practical: a slow site loses visitors before they see what you offer, especially on a phone and with the patchy coverage in parts of the island. We build with that in mind from the first sketch.
In practice that means images in modern formats at the right size, little code and only what's needed, pages served ready-made rather than built on every visit, and no script that doesn't earn its place. This very website is custom-built, and you can check how it loads in PageSpeed Insights. More on why it matters in why a slow website costs you customers.
Maintenance and ownership: what happens after launch
A custom site ages too: the tools it's built with get updated, the services it connects to change and security can't be taken for granted. That's why a good handover includes knowing who maintains it, how it's updated and where the backups are. With the website maintenance plan and premium hosting, we take care of all that.
And always ask, us included, who owns the domain, the hosting and the code, and what would happen if you one day wanted to work with another team. A site only its builder can maintain isn't really yours. On how technical care affects rankings, read why maintenance affects your SEO.
The process, step by step
1. Call and goal. A 20-minute conversation to understand your business, who you're speaking to and what the site has to do. 2. Scope and fixed quote. We send you what the project includes, what it doesn't and what it costs, with no surprises. 3. Design and prototype. You see and approve how it will look before we build anything.
4. Development in stages. We show you progress so corrections happen in time, not at the end. 5. Testing. Mobile, speed, forms, payments and integrations, on different devices and browsers. 6. Launch. With the old site's redirects, Search Console and analytics ready, and training so you can manage it. A corporate site is usually ready in 3–5 weeks; with custom features, we pin it down once the scope is set.
Examples from our portfolio
For the Vicente Alcántara Psychology Centre we built a custom site with a profile for each practitioner, a page for each of the twelve specialities and Psicodiversa, an online classroom with video courses by module, no skipping chapters and a certificate at the end. For Internautic Yachts, a yacht sales and charter platform, with the details and gallery of each vessel and several languages.
Petit Market is Teix's own development: an app for local shops and producers that creates a virtual market, organises orders and generates delivery notes automatically. And Eco-Llonja is an app and website to create a wholesale market for organic products from the Balearic Islands. See more in all our work.
What we build with
We won't throw a list of acronyms at you to impress you. We choose the tool to suit the project: WordPress when you need to edit content freely, and our own development when the site has to be very fast or connect to other systems. What you should be clear about is what was used and why, in words that make sense.
And that the site can be maintained: that it doesn't depend on one person, that it's up to date and that, if you ever change supplier, another technical team can take over. If you'd like to see how we work, run your current site through the free audit and we'll tell you what we'd improve.
What it costs and how it's quoted
There's no catalogue price, because it depends on how many pages and features you need, on the integrations, on the languages and on whether you prepare the content or we do. After a 20-minute call we send you a fixed quote that spells out what's included and what isn't.
If your project is a site without special features and you'd rather not make an upfront investment, the subscription website may suit you better. And if your company qualifies, Kit Digital can cover part of it; we handle the paperwork. For the difference between paying a fee and owning the site, read subscription website or owned website.
Mistakes we see often
Choosing the technology before defining what the site has to do; building custom something a plugin handles well, and overpaying; not thinking about languages from the start, which in Mallorca ends up costing you (how to build a multilingual website that ranks); and launching without a maintenance plan, so a few months later nobody knows how to update it.
We also see projects measured by what was built rather than by what they achieve. That's why we leave everything with analytics and enquiries measured, so you know whether the site is doing its job. If your business is in the capital and you'd prefer an in-person meeting, see web design in Palma.
Answered
Custom web development in Mallorca: frequently asked questions
What is custom web development and how does it differ from WordPress?
It means building the site for your case, instead of starting from a template or a general system with plugins added on. It differs in that it carries only the code you need, is usually faster and can do features a plugin doesn't handle well. WordPress is still a very good option if you want to edit content freely and publish often.
How much does a custom website cost in Mallorca?
It depends on the scope: pages, features, integrations and languages. There's no catalogue price, but after a 20-minute call we send you a fixed quote that spells out what's included and what isn't. It usually needs more investment up front than a template, and in return the site is yours and fits your business.
How long does it take to build?
A corporate website is usually ready in 3–5 weeks. If it includes custom features, integrations, a shop or several languages, we pin it down once the scope is set. What delays a project most is waiting for the copy and photos, so it pays to gather them early.
Do you build custom apps or software in the Balearics?
We build custom websites and platforms: shops, bookings, client areas, online classrooms or apps like Petit Market. For broader internal tools, such as management dashboards, CRMs or automations with artificial intelligence, we have a dedicated AI systems service. On the first call we see which fits.
Can you connect my website to the booking or invoicing software I already use?
In most cases yes, as long as the software offers a way to connect, such as an API. Before promising it we check it against your case: what data has to travel, in which direction and what happens if the connection fails. If it can't be done, we suggest another route.
Will I be able to edit the content myself?
Yes. We agree it at the start: what you want to be able to change yourself, such as text, photos, opening hours or posts, and how. We set it up and train you so you don't depend on anyone for day-to-day changes.
What if I want to switch studios later?
The site and the domain are yours. A well-built website has to be maintainable by another technical team, which is why it's worth asking any studio, before hiring them, who owns the domain, the hosting and the code. We'd rather you stay because we add value, not because you can't leave.
Can it be funded through Kit Digital?
It may fit, depending on what you need. The Kit Digital Website solution has a voucher of up to €2,000 and specific requirements, such as the site being self-manageable and meeting AA accessibility. Custom features that fall outside the solution are quoted separately. There's no general call open today; we explain the current status in the Kit Digital updates.
