What you should know
When selling on a marketplace makes sense
A marketplace puts you in front of people who are already looking to buy, without having to draw them to your own website. It suits products that ship without complications, prices that can absorb the platform's fees and a business able to meet delivery times and customer service standards. A natural cosmetics brand, a bakery with packaged goods or a craft workshop making repeatable pieces are good candidates; a service delivered in person is not. It also helps if you already know which of your products customers ask for most.
Choosing the platform and strategy
The solution starts by defining which platform to sell on and with what strategy. Amazon is the name everyone thinks of, but it isn't always the best option: there are sector-specific marketplaces and others that are stronger in particular countries. Before choosing, be clear about which products you'll list (they needn't be all of them), what margin is left after fees and shipping, and whether you'll compete on price or on brand.
Run the full numbers on a real product: selling price, platform fee, shipping cost, packaging and possible returns. If there's little margin left at the end, that product might help people discover you, but it won't sustain the channel. Better to find that out on paper than with your first hundred orders.
Product listings: where the sale is decided
On a marketplace your product sits right next to your competitors', in exactly the same format. What sets you apart is the listing: a title with the words people type when searching, photos that show the real product, complete attributes so it appears in filters and a description that answers questions before they're asked. That's why content and listing optimisation are central to the solution, not an add-on.
If you sell to other countries, listings need to be well written in their language: an unchecked machine translation shows, and it costs you trust. The same goes for measurements and care instructions.
How we get the channel going
We analyse your catalogue, list the chosen products, optimise their content and support the channel's launch and follow-up. Your part matters just as much: keeping stock up to date, shipping on time, answering customers and looking after reviews. A channel that's opened and then neglected loses visibility within the platform itself.
Before going live, also decide how you'll control stock if you sell in a physical shop, on your website and on the marketplace at the same time. Selling something you no longer have is one of the mistakes that hurts most.
Marketplace and your own store
A marketplace doesn't replace your own store: it gives you reach, but the customers and the rules belong to the platform. It's common to combine both channels, using the marketplace to win customers and your own store to keep them. If that's on your mind, look at the e-commerce solution and our online store service too.

Answered
Frequently asked
Which marketplace should I sell on?
It depends on your product and who you want to sell to. Amazon offers huge reach but also heavy competition; a marketplace specialising in your sector may bring a better-matched audience. We decide during the channel strategy phase, looking at what your competitors already sell, what fees and requirements each platform has and which countries you want to reach.
Do I need my own online store to sell on a marketplace?
It isn't essential: you can start selling directly on the platform. Even so, it's worth having at least a website where customers can check that you exist and get to know your brand. In the medium term, combining a marketplace with your own store gives you reach without depending entirely on someone else's rules and fees.
Who handles orders and customer service?
You, or someone on your team. The solution covers strategy, catalogue listing, listing content and the channel's launch and follow-up, but day-to-day marketplace work is operational: confirming orders, shipping on time, replying to messages and handling returns. It is worth having that organised before your first product goes live.
What do you need from my catalogue to list it?
The basics for each product: name, price, stock, dimensions and weight, good-quality photos and, if it has one, a barcode. Plus anything that helps describe it properly: materials, use, compatibility or certifications. The more complete the starting information, the better the listings we can prepare and the less back and forth there will be with the platform.
Can I use this solution if I sell services rather than products?
It rarely fits. Big marketplaces such as Amazon are designed mainly for physical products that get shipped. If what you offer is services, experiences or work quoted per job, you will be better served by a website that generates enquiries or, if you work with appointments or places, an online booking system on your own site.
